Diamond Cut

Diamonds have always been known for their ability to transmit glow and sparkle, and cut grade determines how diamond's features interact with light. Diamond cut is not to be mistaken with a diamond shape - (marquise, heart, oval, round, pear).

A diamond’s cut plays a crucial part in the stone’s final look and value. Diamonds cut is very difficult to analyse and determine. To determine the cut grade of the round brilliant diamond – the shape that dominates the majority of diamond jewellery the proportions are calculated of the facets that influence the diamonds face-up appearance.

These proportions allow evaluating how successfully a diamond interacts with light to create desired visual effects like internal and external white light reflected from a diamond, the amount of sparkle a diamond produces and the pattern of brightness areas caused by reflections within the diamond.

Star length, table size, crown angle, crown height, total depth, culet, pavilion angle, design and craftsmanship of the diamond, girdle thickness, which affects its durability, the symmetry of its facet arrangement and the quality of polish on those facets. These are all the factors that influence diamonds cut grade.
