Different rings for different occasions

Posted on 3rd August 2015

We here at Diamond Dealers Direct know all there is to know about wedding and engagement rings. After this many years in the trade, it would be worrying if we didn’t!

MT05-0138-editThere is no doubt that these two kinds of rings, while not that dissimilar, make up the vast majority of the ring business, both in terms of money generated, and in the minds of the vast majority of the community, especially in the western world. But engagements and weddings aren’t the only occasions where getting a ring is appropriate.

In fact, rings, and jewellery, are a traditional present for many other events in life. Here are just a few we have selected for you.

Births

When asked what the happiest day of their life is, most adults are usually torn between “my wedding” and “the birth of my children”. If these two are both ranked so highly, then surely both of them deserve to be commemorated with jewellery? With births, you have two options for gift giving. The first option is to purchase a ring, or rings, for the parents. These need not be flashy, and can instead be engraved with the initials of the child.

Or, alternatively, why not give the child his or her first piece of jewellery? Baby bangles are simple wrist or ankle bracelets that are designed to expand as the child grows to be a toddler. They can be engraved with messages or pictures, or can be embedded with the child’s birthstone, which you’ll find in the chart belowBirthstone Chart Finished 2.

Graduation

GraduationAnother occasion that doesn’t come around all that often, graduations are already a time for celebration. They mark the end of one chapter, and the start of a new one. But outside of your diploma, which at the end of the day is a piece of parchment, you may not receive anything else as a symbol of your hard work.

Why not rectify that with jewellery! What is often forgotten about jewellery is that it can be practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. Most graduates are about to embark on a career, so a new watch is a great idea. That said, if aesthetics are important to the new job, a new necklace, bracelet or set of earrings can be just as important in getting the graduate off to the right start.

Anniversary

Anniversary

This isn’t an “outside the box” concept. If a significant anniversary is coming up, one would naturally go to jewellery. But did you know that almost every year of marriage is attached to a certain gemstone?

Oh yes - there isn’t just the silver and gold anniversaries for 25 and 50 years of marriage respectfully. For example, the 10 year anniversary should be marked by a diamond. 15 years should be marked by a ruby, and 20 years by an emerald. To see the entire list, click here.

Of course, there is also the eternity ring, perhaps the third biggest sector of rings. These symbolise the eternal love between partners, and are set apart from traditional rings by an unbroken line of small crystals, usually diamonds. While traditionally given for the 50th anniversary, they can hypothetically be given at any time.

You’ll find all of the rings mentioned above at Diamond Dealers Direct, so why not come down and have a look for a unique piece of jewellery for whatever occasion you want to celebrate!
