How to plan a wedding in 3 months

Posted on 30th July 2020

When working out how to plan a wedding ceremony, most couples have a lot longer than 3 months in which to do so.

So - how to plan a wedding in 3 months? It’s actually a lot easier than you might think.

All you need is a detailed wedding checklist and knowledge of how to plan a wedding step-by-step. And, while there are lots of wedding planning tips out there, none are quite as simple or effective as what you’re about to read.

Month 1

Whether you’re starting from scratch or having to reschedule your wedding, month 1 is where the most mistakes can be made.

However, get it right, and it’ll be the most productive month, too.

  1. Get the legalities sorted - this is an essential first step.
  2. Create the guest list.
  3. Pick the date.
  4. Pick the venue and book any accommodation that’s needed.
  5. Start sending out emails and texts to your most important guests about the date.
  6. Book the caterer, photographer and band or DJ.
  7. Get the florist sorted.
  8. Start dress and suit shopping, and do the same for the wedding party.
  9. Order the cake and any stationery you need.

Month 2

It’s getting closer, and there’s still plenty to do. Don’t drop the pace!

  1. Get the honeymoon sorted and check your passports if you’re heading abroad.
  2. Send out the full wedding invitations and start making a note of RSVPs.
  3. Plan how the ceremony will pan out.
  4. Choose hen and stag party dates and get them booked up.
  5. Book hair and makeup trials and book the one you prefer.
  6. Get the wedding transport in order for the day.
  7. Buy the rings.

Month 3

This is it; your wedding is within grasping distance!

You’ve done lots of the hard work, but there are still a few odds and ends to tidy up before you can relax and enjoy the big day.

  1. Finalise the bride’s outfit and sort out any alterations if they’re needed.
  2. Confirm the decor and flower details for the venue.
  3. Create an on-the-day timeline and share with the people who need to know it the most (wedding planner, venue, DJ, photographer, etc).
  4. Book any last minute beauty requirements, such as haircuts, tans, or nails.
  5. Finalise the menu with one final tasting.
  6. Buy gifts for your wedding party, family and any helpers.
  7. If you’re doing any DIY projects for the wedding (or crafts) make sure they’re completed.
  8. Review that RSVP list and get in touch with any guests who are yet to respond.

Wrapping up

That’s it! We’ve covered the most common wedding planning activities above, but it’s important to remember that this is your day - no one else's.

You may, therefore, have some additional items to add to the above to-do lists. Just make sure you don’t over stretch yourselves; 3 months isn’t very long at all, and the time will absolutely fly by.

The last piece of advice is to enjoy your wedding planning. It should be just as exciting as the big day itself and it's a once in a lifetime thing for you as a couple - make the most of it!
