Wedding planning is a flurry of excitement, stress, difficult decisions and the constant battling with one’s budget. As a result, last minute panics and on-the-day disasters are rather common occurrences.
Imagine reaching your wedding day only to realise that a crucial detail, person or - worse - ring has been forgotten. You’d never forgive yourself and, depending on the size of the mistake, it will likely live longer in the memory for those in attendance than your grand entrance into church.
Fear not, though, for there are ways to avoid such disasters. There’s no escaping the fact that planning a wedding is one of the most difficult tasks you’ll ever have to undertake, but if you’re aware of the common pitfalls before you get started, you’re far less likely to fall foul of them yourself.
Thankfully (for you), plenty of others have made mistakes you can learn from, and in this post, we’re going to look at five things you need to know before you plan your wedding that will help it go by without a hitch.
If you currently have eighteen shades of pink in front of you and you’re toiling over which one to use for the seat covers at the reception venue, the likelihood is you’re neglecting something far more important.
People remember the big details at weddings. The dress, the first dance, the father of the bride’s speech and a night spent entirely on the dance floor are just some of the memories they’ll treasure forever. The seat covers? Put it this way - if you went to a wedding last year, can you remember if they even had seat covers? Exactly.
Unlike times of old, brides now have a wealth of technological marvels on which they can call during wedding preparations. In particular, there are some fantastic apps that will help you plan the room layout and make the tricky ring buying process for you and your future hubby as easy and enjoyable as it should be.
Your wedding photos will be among the most precious you have in your collection, therefore it pays to ensure that you get the most from the photographer on the day.
To ensure your snapper can get to work quickly and avoid keeping guests from the evening’s partying for too long, it makes sense to put together a photo checklist. Make sure you list the obvious (both families, bridesmaids, ushers, etc), but consider the less obvious, too. For example, it might be a nice keepsake to get a photo of the page boys and flower girls, but that image may never be captured if you don’t plan for it.
Come the big day you won’t want to be saddled with anything but the absolutely essential bridal duties, so make sure you delegate errands to your bridesmaids and ushers. Don’t worry - you’re allowed to boss people around on your wedding day, and they’ll be fully prepared to start accepting responsibility for the key tasks.
On the week or so leading up to your wedding day, try to avoid any strenuous activities. The last thing you’ll want to do is hobble down the isle with your leg in a cask, so avoid rock climbing, long distance running or your regular kick boxing class!
There are, of course, plenty more things to bear in mind when planning your wedding, but the above represent the absolute essential items that should be on your to-do (or not to-do!) list.
Happy wedding planning![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
