You had more than one sleepless night worrying if they would like the ring, or if it would fit their finger, or if they would even say yes! Well hopefully they did, and you’ve now taken that weight off your shoulders, safe in the knowledge that you got the ring right.

Now, you have to do it all again for the wedding rings.

Don’t worry! Wedding bands are, thankfully, much easier to buy in our opinion. Not only is the range much less densely populated, but it is also something you can do together, eliminating the guesswork. If you’re still wondering how to go about it, here are some tips we have for you.

Buy engagement and wedding band together

If you haven’t brought the engagement ring yet, then consider picking out both the engagement and the wedding rings in tandem. This may involve cluing in your partner, but if you are one of those lucky couples that know the engagement is just a formality, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Buying them together means you can make sure they suit each other, a good trait considering they will sit next to each other for many years to come.

Narrow the options before you start

If you forgo the first tip, then once your are engaged, start by narrowing down your choices. You should have a metal, size, style, and any decorative details mapped out before you step into your first jewellery shop. Be open to change should something come along, but you’ll save a lot of time by having a blueprint in your head.

Start the search early

You’ll have a lot going on in the run up to your wedding so get the rings out the way quickly. This is an activity that requires no outside input (unlike a lot of other planning aspects that come with weddings), and involves spending the day together shopping. That can help you take your mind off things, and enjoy some time just being a regular couple again.
Wedding rings are all about unity after all!

Suit yourself

It’s OK to not have matching wedding rings. It is unlikely that twin rings would suit you both equally anyway. Instead, get a ring that suits you and your style. Afterall, it is you that has to wear it long term! If you want something unique, you can get rings forged from a blend of two metals, so if you like gold but they like platinum, you can get two rings that combine both metals.

Don’t go crazy on the wedding ring expense. Most traditional wedding rings are plain anyway, so they shouldn’t cost anywhere near as much as the engagement ring cost you. So set a budget, and unless there are exceptional circumstances, try to stick to it. A quick bit of research on the internet should be able to give you a rough idea.

Think long term

Finally, try to buy rings that have a timeless quality. One ring might be all the rage now, but if it is a trend that could go away in a heartbeat, you may be stuck with that ring for a very long time. Try to pick something that you wouldn’t mind seeing, or letting others see, any given day.
